Developed in Europe in the early 1990s, Dysport is an FDA-approved injection treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles in the forehead. Similar to BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport is injected directly into the site of wrinkles to prevent the underlying muscles from contracting. Dysport injections are made from the bacterium Clostridum botulinum, the same protein used in Botox injections.
Dysport now rivals Botox, the most popular cosmetic procedure, with its convenience and long-lasting results.
Is it right for me?
Dysport won't fix all types of skin problems. For example, while it can diminish under-eye wrinkles, it can't repair the damage caused by the sun. Your skin thickness, type, and the degree of wrinkling all play a role in determining the effectiveness of botulinum toxin.

A very simple procedure, Dysport injections are done in our office on a out-patient basis.
What to expect
Though you can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure, there is one note of caution: Don't rub or massage the treated areas after the wrinkle treatment because it can cause the botulinum toxin to migrate to another area of your face. If this happens, you could have temporary facial weakness or drooping.
Although generally safe, side effects and complications can include:
- Bruising and pain at the injection site
- Flu-like symptoms
- Temporary facial weakness or drooping
- Very rarely, the toxin can spread beyond the treatment area, which can cause botulism-like signs and symptoms such as breathing problems, trouble swallowing, muscle weakness
Anesthesia and medication
If necessary, topical anesthesia can be applied to the skin prior to injection.
None. Most patients return to work and most normal activities, including vigorous exercise, the day of the procedure.
